Finding the right type of childcare to suit you and your child is really important.

Here are some things to ask about.

  • At what times will I need childcare?
  • Where do I want childcare? Should it be near my workplace, near my home, near my place of study or near my child's school?
  • What sort of environment will be best for my child? Should it be in someone else's home, with lots of other children or in smaller environment?

You can search for childcare in our marketplace.

If you are struggling to find the right childcare, the County Council has a Childcare Finder service, who will look at your requirements and use their extensive knowledge of childcare provision in your area to help you find the best options.

This is a free, professional and impartial service. To use it, phone 0300 123 2224 or email or you can fill in the online form.

30 hours funded childcare for working parents of 3 and 4 year olds
All three and four year olds are entitled to up to 15 hours of funded early education and childcare a week for up to 38 weeks a year, or 570 hours a year if "stretched".

The government is doubling this entitlement to 30 hours a week (for up to 38 weeks a year) from September 2017. Find out more on the County Council website.
