Short break care
Short breaks are a period of support with approved foster carers, for disabled children aged 8 to 18 years, which could be for a couple of hours, overnight or a weekend.
There are two residential short break units that provide overnight support and access is based on the needs of the disabled child or young person.
There is one residential unit that provides long-term care to disabled children and young people who have complex health needs who are supported jointly by Health and Social Care agencies.
This can only be offered to children who meet the eligibility criteria for the service and this is decided with an assessment of need.
You can find out more about short break care, including early help short breaks, where there is no need for an assessment, on the Disabled Children and Young People's Service page on the County Council website.
